“Skeletonwitch, Sabaton and Amon Amarth was a lineup that was too incredible to miss out on! I had been waiting for months to go to this show, when I finally got off work and biked up to the Wonder Ballroom, I found out I had missed Skeletonwitch. Learning this information disheartened me for a moment, but Sweden based band, Sabaton, and their incredible and energetic set really picked my mood up.
Though I’ve always liked Sabaton, I don’t really listen to them ever so I wasn’t looking forward to seeing them nearly as much as Skeletonwitch and Amon Amarth. For that reason, I wasn’t expecting them to be as awesome as they were that night. The band’s set was really tight and well put together, I could tell they put a lot of effort and care into what they were playing. However, what really made their set great was how energetic and excited they were to be playing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a band that stoked to be playing. They jumped around, bantered with the audience and goofed off a lot, all while playing their amazing music. Not to mention that one of their guitar players was using a traditional Fender Stratocaster, which is regarded to be not good for metal. Sabaton certainly proved this dead wrong and earned bonus points from me for using my favorite guitars.
It should go without saying that Amon Amarth was awesome, but I’ll talk about them anyway. For one thing, they inspired a need in me to get a drinking horn, for another thing they played a super rad, super long set. Though I was completely exhausted from working 9 hours that day, hearing the beginning to “Runes to my Memory” made something inside of me ignite and I threw myself in the pit. By the end of their set I was collapsing from weariness, but it was well beyond worth it.” -Aydan
